Transient Status

Current North Georgia undergraduate students may request to complete certain courses at another institution as a transient student. A transient permission form must be submitted to the Registrar's office prior to the term in which the student would like take these courses. Permission is not granted to students on academic suspension. Two year college courses may not transfer to North Georgia as upper division courses.

Students who attended North Georgia at least one term in the prior year (or three semesters) and who plan to return to North Georgia may be advised and register for classes as a continuing student without reapplying to North Georgia or reactivating their files. Students should refer to the Registration & Reporting Guides for upcoming advisement and registration dates.

However, if a student has been away from North Georgia for more than three terms, he/she must contact his/her Admissions Office regarding admissions requirements, deadlines and fees.

The Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs must approve Transient Permission Requests for the following students:

  • students who wish to repeat a course in which a grade has already been earned at North Georgia
  • students taking transient coursework after Senior status has been achieved
  • students who are on academic probation
  • students who have been granted academic renewal

The Transient Permission Request form is available online within Banner from the Student menu.

The Transfer Equivalencies site below can assist students with the selection of courses based on how these courses will transfer back to North Georgia. The listing or exclusion of certain institutions and/or courses does not reflect the transferability of course credit. If students or advisors have questions, please contact the Registrar's Office.

Course Transfer Equivalencies

After the student submits the form, the Registrar's office will send a letter of good standing to the other institution. The student must apply to that institution as a transient student. At the close of the transient term, students must request an official transcript of their coursework at the other institution be sent to North Georgia.

Graduate students who are interested in seeking transient permission should contact the Office of Graduate Admissions for more information.
