Karen Cochran Roop earned a BA in English from North Georgia in 2007 and an MA in Professional Writing from Kennesaw State University in 2011. Her studies in composition and rhetoric at Kennesaw forged her interest in women’s rhetorical influence and culminated in the master’s thesis, The True Knowledge of Women, a four-course concentration in the study of women’s rhetoric.
In addition to being a student at North Georgia, Karen was also the Director of Advancement Services in the Advancement office and served on numerous boards, including the founding board for the University Press of North Georgia. Karen was also the editor of the press’s historical novel, Dahlonega’s Gold.
As for her “other” job, Karen directs the Development Services department at The Carter Center in Atlanta. She has over ten years experience in the non-profit development field, where she has written numerous technical manuals and employee training curricula. In October 2010, she presented at the National Philanthropy Conference in Washington, D.C.
When not commuting to Atlanta or putting the finishing touches on an English 1101 lesson plan, Karen enjoys spending time with her family, reading (did you expect anything less?), doing needlework, watching movies, photographing flowers, and playing with the family dog, Clyde.
