Foundations of Greek Life

Fraternity and sorority life are founded with four main principles in mind.  They are service, scholarship, leadership, and lifelong friends.  At NGCSU the Greek community embraces these principles. 

Service

One of the most rewarding aspects of Greek membership is the ability to become involved with community service and philanthropic projects.  Each year the Greek community contributes many hours and dollars to local and national charities.  NGCSU Greeks acknowledge the responsibility to serve and benefit others by volunteering their time to the community.  Last year Greeks volunteered over 17,508 hours and donated over $64,817.  Working together on these philanthropic projects and events not only benefit worthy causes, but also fosters personal growth and greater unity among Greek members.

Scholarship

Academics are the most important aspect of college life.  At NGCSU, the primary goal for students is to successfully complete their academic requirements.  Our fraternities and sororities pride themselves on academic success.  Each chapter offers a wide range of support and assistance to their members including incentives and awards, time management and study skills workshops, and tutoring and mentoring programs.  NGCSU requires a minimum 2.3 GPA and 12 completed hours (at this institution) for participation in recruitment. 

Leadership

Greek life provides countless opportunities for further exploration and development of leadership skills.  Greeks engage in a wide variety of activities that develop abilities such as teamwork, dedication, loyalty, and cooperation.  Greek students serve as leaders on campus as part of many student organizations as well as officers within their individual chapters and as executive members of governing councils.  Joining the Greek community at NGCSU can open ip a vast range of leadership possibilities. 

Lifelong Friendships

One of the most cherished aspects of being involved in a Greek organization is the friendships that are made with men/women who share your interests and your values.  Involvement in a Greek organization gives members an opportunity to expand your circle of friends because brotherhood/sisterhood is the foundation of the Greek experience.  It combines the concept of individualism within the framework of mutual cooperation.  As a Greek member, you will form friendships unlike any found in other organizations.  Lasting friendships are formed over time through common activities, becoming roommates, and shared leadership experiences.
