Amendment 23:Tuition and Fee Waiver For Persons 62 and Older

Amendment 23 enables Georgia residents who are 62 or older to resume, continue or even begin their college education at a substantially reduced cost. This program is part of a statewide effort on behalf of older persons as directed by Amendment 23 to the Georgia constitution, and approved by the Regents of the University System of Georgia. The program is designed to allow eligible applicants to register for college-level courses for credit or audit (same requirements as for credit), on a space-available basis subject to requirements listed below:

Minimum Requirements for Amendment 23

The following minimum requirements must be met in order for an applicant to receive an Amendment 23 waiver:

  • Must apply and pay the $30 application fee, meet all applicable admissions requirements and be accepted.
  • Provide a document showing lawful presence in the United States if requesting to pay Georgia in-state tuition.   Click here for a list of documents that can be used.
  • Provide a North Georgia Certificate of Immunization
  • Must be 62 years of age or older at the time of registration. (Submit a birth certificate or current passport for verification of age. Please submit to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.)
  • Must be classified as a Georgia resident in accordance with the Regents' Requirements for Resident Status.

APPLYING
You must submit the completed Application for Admission along with a $30 application fee and birth certificate or passport.  Applicants with previous college-level course work must submit official transcripts from each accredited college or university attended.  Applicants who have completed fewer than 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of transferable college-level work also must submit either an official high school transcript showing they have graduated or official GED scores if they earned a GED.

REGISTRATION
To receive the waiver of tuition and fees, amendment 23 applicants are required to register for their desired classes on the first day of classes or during drop/add on a space available basis. Check the online registration calendar for the semester for which you will be registering to determine the first day of classes. This is the date you can begin registering.

No tuition and fees will be assessed for classes enrolled in during drop/add (beginning with the first day of class), except for supplies or laboratory fees. All usual student and institutional records will be maintained.
