Doctor in Physical Therapy

Welcome to the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of North Georgia.  We are nestled in a beautiful mountain setting, about an hour north of Atlanta, on UNG's Dahlonega Campus. With more than 15,000 students spread over four campuses in northeast Georgia, North Georgia is large enough to provide a wide array of opportunities and activities, but small enough to ensure personal attention from professors and to foster friendships among students. Located in Dahlonega, GA, a small historic town in the Blue Ridge Mountains, North Georgia is a coeducational public university emphasizing strong liberal arts, as well as pre-professional, professional and graduate programs. North Georgia is noted throughout the State of Georgia for its excellence in teaching and as a leadership institution. The University strongly emphasizes global and regional engagement as well. The Department of Physical Therapy adheres and enthusiastically supports the mission and purpose of the University of North Georgia.  

The Doctor in Physical Therapy is the first doctorate degree offered at the University of North Georgia.   The DPT program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.

Since the inception of the Physical Therapy program at the University of North Georgia in 1992, the program has been committed to the recruitment of students who are dedicated to addressing the educational, professional and community needs of all citizens, particularly through rural practice. In 2006 the program expanded it mission to include recruitment of students who are committed not only to rural practice but to all other medically underserved communities as well. On average nationally, females constitute 71.3% and males represent 28.7% of all enrolled students. Our program currently reports 62% of its students are female and 38% are male.

We offer state-of-the-art facilities. The entire third floor of the Health and Natural Sciences Building is dedicated to physical therapy. The useable space by identified function consists of two classrooms equipped with sufficient media/video/smart board/projector systems, five laboratories (gross anatomy; neuro/basic skills; pediatrics; orthopedic; gait), PT library/computer room, dedicated research areas, a conference room, and six problem-based learning tutorial rooms. The University of North Georgia also has space located on the 1st floor for the North Georgia Faculty Practice primary care clinic which is shared with the Appalachian Nurse Practitioner Clinic. Our equipment availability is considered state-of-the-art for the purpose of teaching, clinical practice and research.
