(Nov. 1, 2011) Dr. Barry Friedman, political science
professor and coordinator of the Master of Public Affairs program at North
Georgia College & State University, was honored with the North Georgia
Meritorious Service Award at today’s 2011 University Awards Ceremony.
"North Georgia's core values of integrity, service,
wisdom, courage, loyalty, truth, and respect have great meaning to this campus
community. They are not just words we espouse; they are the essence of our
daily work and part of our culture. As faculty and staff, we seek to model
these traits for our students and thereby teach them more than academics,"
university President Bonita C. Jacobs said in announcing Friedman's award. "Previous
recipients have been recognized for courage and wisdom. The recipient of this
year's Meritorious Service Award is being recognized for his demonstration of
selfless service."
The university began presenting the Meritorious Service Award
in 2009 to recognize faculty and staff who demonstrate North Georgia's core
values.
Friedman, pictured at left, has been at North Georgia since 1992. He
has helped develop and supports many of the university's honor societies and
has also held regional and national offices in several of these organizations.
He has generously served the community as a "safe space listener" for
the university's Project Dignity and volunteers with numerous local charities.
