North Georgia College & State University's Department of History & Philosophy and the Blue Ridge Archaeology Guild of Dahlonega present a free public lecture on "Ocmulgee National Monument: The Role of Geophysics in Archaeology" at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 in the Gloria Shott Performing Arts Auditorium.

Daniel Bigman, Ph.D. candidate in anthropology at the University of Georgia, and anthropology adjunct at North Georgia, will be discussing the mapping of the prehistoric Indian mound site with ground-penetrating radar, soil resistivity, and other electronic gear. These are methods to locate buildings and other features below the surface without excavation.
