How Do I Become a Cadet?
Apply for Admission as a Cadet
North Georgia has two separate undergraduate admissions offices. One office handles civilian students. The other handles students who want to be Cadets. If you want to be a Cadet, you are in the right place, and your entire admissions process will be handled by the Cadet Admissions office. After you read these instructions, if you still have any questions regarding the application process or your eligibility, please call or e-mail the Associate Director of Cadet Admissions, Mrs. Chris Rodriguez-Smith at 706 867-2924 or chrisrs@northgeorgia.edu
.
Deadlines:
Summer 2012: 1 May 2012
Fall 2012: 1 July 2012 (may be earlier depending on volume of applications)
Spring 2013: 1 December 2012
Below are your step-by-step instructions for applying for admission as a Cadet.
Step 1. Determine your chances for admission. Click here.
Step 2. Read the "Notes" at the bottom of this page (under Step 5).
Step 3. Determine whether you meet the requirements for admission, then apply for admission by following the steps listed in one of the categories below. Select the category which applies to you:
Student from Accredited High School or Home School. (You are under the age of 23 and have not attended college after high school. This category applies to you if you have taken college courses while in high school.)
Student from Non-Accredited Home School or High School.
College (Transfer) Student. (You are now enrolled in another college, or you have attended college after high school graduation.)
International Student. (You are not a United States citizen, and have not been granted resident alien status.)
Dual Enrolled Cadet. (You want to be a Cadet and take courses at North Georgia during your senior year of high school.)
Non-Traditional Student. (Your high school class graduated at least five years ago, you have a high school diploma or GED, and you have earned fewer than 30 transferable semester hours of college credit.)
Transient Student. (You are enrolled in another college or university and seek temporary admission to North Georgia. You must re-apply each semester.)
Former-Returning Cadet. (You were previously enrolled at North Georgia and wish to return to North Georgia.)
Post-Baccalaureate Student. (You already have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.)
Step 4. If you have not been on campus for a visit or tour, please visit. See your visiting opportunities.
Step 5. If you are accepted for admission to the university, read your Cadet Admissions Manual. The manual contains instructions on the steps you need to take to enroll.
Read These Notes:
(1) If you want to apply for the Summer Language Institute, follow the instructions on the Foreign Language Education page.
(2) If you can't afford to pay the $30 application fee, then print the Application for Undergraduate Admissions , fill it out and mail it to us with your SAT or ACT fee waiver form.
(3) We prefer that you fill out the on-line application for admission. The State of Georgia uses a "common" on-line application. Whether you're a Georgia resident or not, you will be asked to establish an account with "GACollege411" to begin your application.
(4) We may consider out-of-state applicants who are missing a required course for admission. However, you must meet your state's college-prep high school graduation requirements, and have an excellent academic, athletic, and leadership record.
(5) We will accept the highest individual math and critical reading (or English) score from all of your SATs or ACTs.
(6) We
will require "official" transcripts from your high school and/or
college/s. For a transcript to qualify
as "official", it must be signed
or stamped by an official at your institution, and unopened between the time your
institution sealed it and the time we receive it.
(7) Admission as a Cadet does not automatically admit you to the teacher education, athletic training, exercise science or nursing programs.
(8) Mailing address:
North Georgia College & State University
ATTN: Cadet Admissions
82 College Circle
Dahlonega, GA 30597
(9) Changing your term. If you're unable to enroll in the term for which you were accepted, then you may update your term by filling out the Cadet Update Form. For each application that you submit, you are allowed one update to either the term immediately preceding (as long as you have not been denied admission for the initial term for which you applied) or to the term following the term of your original application. If you wish to move your application to a term not immediately preceding or following the term for which you applied, you must submit another application for the desired term and pay another application fee.
(10) Residence Policy. The Corps of Cadets is a residential leadership experience which requires all Cadets to live in a student-led military environment. Therefore, students in the Corps of Cadets must be enrolled full time and live on campus in designated residence halls. Cadets may live off-campus if they reside at the permanent legal residence of parent(s) or grandparent(s) within Dawson, Hall, Lumpkin, or White counties; are married; are 23 years of age or older; or have completed two years of successful active military service. Cadets who have earned 90 semester hours may elect to leave the Corps to become civilian students. Those who leave the Corps prior to earning 90 semester hours will be ineligible to enroll in North Georgia courses for a period of one calendar year from the date of their withdrawal from the Corps. Prospective Cadets should submit requests for waivers to this policy to the Director of Cadet Admissions. Failure to comply with this policy may result in dismissal from the university. Failure to comply is defined as an act of providing misleading or false information during the admissions process or when applying for a waiver; or not moving into or maintaining residence in university housing when available.
(11) Student E-mail. Prior to enrolling in classes, you're provided with an e-mail account. Student e-mail is the official channel of communication between the University and you. It is your responsibility to periodically monitor your account and be aware of the information sent by the University. Lack of knowledge that results from failure to monitor University e-mail communications will not excuse you from complying with University policies, procedures and/or deadlines and will not be considered grounds for appeal for relief from those policies, procedures, and deadlines.
