The Film Institute will immerse you in the art of film
making in a hands-on, collaborative learning environment.
You will help write, produce, direct, edit, and screen a
short film.
The Film Institute is for anyone who wants to experience the
magic of movie making.
For those planning a career in the visual arts, the
institute provides a solid foundation in all aspects of film production taught
by professionals in the field.

What courses will I take?

Courses will include:
FILM 2700 History of Film, 3hrs.
FILM 3100 Writing for Film and Digital Media
I, 3hrs.
FILM 3300 Directing for Film and Digital Media II, 3hrs.
Total: 9
hours of college credit
Maximum enrollment: 24 students
In addition to classroom instruction, participants will
enjoy co-curricular activities in film, including field-trips to Atlanta.

Carrie Schrader
Carrie Schrader is a writer, director and actor whose films, Boys and Dogs and Kids Are Weird, First Date, The Thorny Rose, and Don’t Mess With Texas, have won festival awards internationally including “Best Short Film”, “Excellence in Production” and “Top Ten Director’s to Watch out For”.
Her screenplays have received acclaim from Outfest L.A. and New York’s IFP market. She also won the “New Voices” award at the Seattle International Film Festival.
She has co-directed and produced numerous projects with Cherry Films including Rock and Roll Heaven’s Gate, an animated music video for the Indigo Girls. Cherry Films productions currently show on LOGO and are distributed by Wolfe Video.
Her most recent acting role was as “Millie” in a short film written by Tricia Cooke and Ethan Coen.
Carrie attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and received her BFA from University of Washington in acting. She also received top honors from Columbia University where she earned her MFA degree in Directing and Screenwriting.
She has been teaching for the last ten years for various institutions including Duke University and Image Film and Video. She is currently working with Cherry Films to produce a feature length horror film – to be shot in North Georgia.
