Educational Background
B.S. in Biology (Honors), 1991, University of California at Riverside
M.S. in Biology, 1993, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
Ph.D. in Biology, 1998, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Research Interests
I infer the phylogenetic (evolutionary) relationships of freshwater fishes using DNA sequences and to a lesser extent morphology. Presently I am studying the evolutionary relationships and phylogeography of the goodeids of the Mesa Central of Mexico. At a broader level, my interests include biogeography, the factors affecting the species richness of groups (speciation and extinction), and the documentation and conservation of fish diversity.
