Transfer Student Admission requirements

Transfer applicants are those who have previously enrolled in other colleges. Applicants who have attended other colleges and maintained a transferable grade point average of 2.0 or better, have a clear conduct record, are in good academic standing and are eligible to return to their former college may be considered for admission to North Georgia College & State University. Please read further for additional requirements.

Transfer credit is generally accepted from regionally accredited institutions. A credit evaluation is completed by the Registrar's Office after a student has been accepted to North Georgia. We understand that many times students make decisions based on the number of credits that may or may not transfer.

Transfer credit is usually not granted from colleges that are not regionally accredited; however, if the credit evaluation received after a student has been accepted shows that no credit was transferred from that college, students can request a course review for credit by sending, to the Registrar's Office, that college's course syllabi and professor credentials for each course to be considered.

Students who have questions regarding whether transfer credit will be accepted, should check Course Transfer Equivalencies at North Georgia to see what credit has transferred to North Georgia in the past (please read more about the course transfer equivalencies below). If students still have questions after reviewing the equivalencies, contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, or if a prospective cadet, Cadet Admissions.

A transfer student who has not completed 30 semester hours of transferable core curriculum work must have completed the approved College Preparatory Curriculum as outlined by the USG Board of Regents. Therefore, freshman admission criterion are also applicable to transfer students who have not completed at least 30 semester hours of transferable credit. Transfer applicants who have graduated from high school less than five years ago and have taken the equivalent of North Georgia's learning support courses at another college must complete 30 semester hours of transferable core curriculum beyond the learning support courses.

All transfer applicants who have a transferable college GPA that is lower than 3.0, must also have successfully completed the following two transferable courses at a regionally accredited college:

  • A course that is the equivalent to North Georgia's ENGL 1101 (English Composition I), with a grade of "C" or better;
  • A mathematics course that is the equivalent of North Georgia's MATH 1101 (Introduction to Mathematical Models), MATH 1111 (College Algebra), MATH 1113 (Pre-calculus) or MATH 2450 (Calculus I);

Students who want to transfer to North Georgia will have each transcript from all prior colleges evaluated in the Registrar's Office. This evaluation is done to determine if a course is equivalent to a North Georgia course.

If you wish to know which courses will transfer from your prior college(s) to North Georgia, please go to Course Transfer Equivalencies at North Georgia and select your college from the list. The Transfer Equivalencies site can assist students to determine how credit has been transferred to North Georgia in the past for other students. The site is not exhaustive but includes work brought into North Georgia by prior students. It is a guide only. The listing or exclusion of certain institutions and/or courses does not reflect the transferability of course credit.   Please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, or Cadet Admissions if a prospective cadet, with questions.

Students are required to submit official transcripts from all institutions previously attended. Transfer credit will be evaluated and awarded based on the accreditation of the institution from which the students are transferring AND their eligibility to receive credit at North Georgia.

All official international transcripts must have a foreign course-by-course credential evaluation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) in order for the courses to be considered for college credit. The evaluation must be sent directly from the agency to the appropriate Admissions office (for new students) or to the Registrar’s office (for all other students). A full list of NACES members are listed online at http://www.naces.org/members.htm. Education majors should be aware that the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) does not recognize evaluations from World Education Services (WES).  For more details on agencies accepted by the PSC, review the PSC web site at www.gapsc.com.

Students who want to major in nursingeducation, athletic training or exercise science programs will need to complete a second online application to that program. In addition, all North Georgia applicants should refer to their desired major for any additional requirements.

A student who wishes to transfer to North Georgia must submit the following:

  • Application for Undergraduate Admission with $30 non-refundable application fee
  • Official copies of transcripts from EACH institution attended
  • IF the student has earned fewer than 30 semester of hours of transferable credit they will need to send their official high school transcripts and official SAT/ACT scores
  • Applicants who are U.S. citizens and were born outside the U.S. must submit proof of U.S. citizenship
  • Applicants who have been granted permanent U.S. residency must submit proof of permanent residency
  • Applicants seeking F-1 or J-1 visas must complete the International Student Application
  • Prior to enrolling a student must submit a North Georgia Certificate of Immunization, showing proof of immunization as required by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia

Transfer admission is usually determined by the applicant's academic qualifications as noted on the college transcript(s). However, the Director of Admissions reserves the right to request high school transcripts for use during the evaluation of the application, even if the student has more than 30 semester hours of credit. No students will be admitted without required transcripts.

Even if the institution that the student last attended is an accredited institution, the University may reject all or any part of previously earned credits if there is any reason to believe that the quality of the educational programs of the previous institution is unsatisfactory. An applicant will not be considered for admission unless the transcript shows an honorable discharge from the college last attended or unless the officials of that institution recommend the applicant's admission.

Work attempted at another institution by a student under academic suspension or dismissal cannot be transferred to North Georgia College & State University for credit toward a degree.

Transfer Credit Policies

Transfer students entering North Georgia shall be subject to the following policies:
